Recognised Prior Recognition (RPL) is an evaluation process that can help a candidate’s progress toward a national qualification. RPL is a process to recognize the skills and knowledge of candidates based on evidence of their past or present work experience , or by demonstrating their abilities. The following information will provide a framework to prepare candidates for this process and help them prepare themselves and their evidence. It will help the candidates to document the skills / experiences and organize the evidence in a logical format for the evaluators. The benefit of RPL is to reduce the unnecessary repetition of prior learning, to achieve grades in less time and to gain access to a higher grade. This competence can be achieved through
formal or informal training, or
work experience; or
life experience in general; or
any combination of the above
All evaluation pathways must incorporate RPL, which allows the competencies of individuals to be formally compared with the Industry Reference Training Package, a national competition standard. Credit can be offered to all candidates seeking recognition compared to the competition standards with 100% recognition of possible initial evaluation.
